The play table offers endless gaming fun without loose parts, and is therefore a very practical addition to your room. With more games on the horizon and online multiplayer support, the Infinity Game Table's sturdy foundation will likely only get more impressive over time. Battleship has never been a big hit in our house, but when it’s augmented with explosive sound effects, animated on-screen graphics emphasizing every hit, and the table literally rumbling with a vibrating motor inside when a torpedo hits its target, it instantly became one of my son’s favorite games to play. The Infinity Game Table, for all of its power under the hood and interactive games at your fingertips, is a fairly unassuming device. We’ve seen plenty of digital board game devices before, but many complicate things by incorporating extra technologies like blockchain or augmented reality into the mix.
Another promotional image, but this gives a bit of a sense of the size, thickness, and bezel of the board. Each game has music and theme-appropriate sound effects, but what's most impressive is how Arcade1Up altered and added to each game to bring it to life in a way that makes them feel like more than digital copycats. This year, nearly everyone stayed home (the only exception I found was Arkenforge – map making software which I’ll cover in my Gen Con RPG report. And it is hard to beat the feeling of shaking five dice in a cup while playing Yahtzee--even though the Infinity Game Table admirably tries to replicate this. Visual prompts make it easier to follow games along, and sound effects plus haptic feedback add immersion.
The Infinity Game Table is, somewhat annoyingly, not a table you’d necessarily feel comfortable using as one. You can create a puzzle of any size between 9 and 529 pieces and can choose to either have a blank table to build on or a dim copy of the final image.However, I was particularly attracted to the ability for adjacent gameboards to link up with each other to create a mega-gameboard for a large game footprint. Before contributing to any campaign, read the crowdfunding site's policies -- in this case, Kickstarter -- to find out your rights (and refund policies, or the lack thereof) before and after a campaign ends. I know I haven’t piqued the interest of anyone in OpinionatedGamers-land, but there is hope on the horizon. That will certainly disappoint some users who are accustomed to gaming on higher-res screens, but from my testing the Infinity Game Table makes up for its lackluster specs with just plain old fun.
You’ll often be feeling for the controls, which is why it would have been nice to have more space between them. It’s still challenging, and you actually feel the patient’s vibrating heartbeat speed up every time you make a mistake, which is fun, but it doesn’t really feel like the classic version of the game. If you are looking for a more immersive social gaming experience, the 32" Infinity Game Table™ is the choice.
