While the 2018 The Frame model only featured three sizes – 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch– that has since expanded with a 49-inch size, as well as the massive 75-inch and miniscule 32-inch sizes for 2020. The 2021 iteration keeps all but the 32-inch sizes, though we could see a smaller version release later in the year. We spoke to James Parker, Head of TV Product Management at Samsung Electronics UK, who told us that “24% of people replace their TV for interior related reasons, and so The Frame in 32-inch fills the void in the market for a transferable TV that can fit in with any space regardless of the size.” So if you want to buy a 32-inch Samsung The Frame with Motion Sensor, just make sure you’re buying this year’s version, which you can do from the Samsung store. A few of these works are famous enough for non-aficionados to recognize, such as Ballet Rehearsal on Stage (Degas), or Monet’s Garden at Sainte-Adress or especially Water Lilies. But the other seven in the Classic sub-collection are less well known, despite being attached to Big Names (Gauguin, Klimt, Munch). And the other sub-collections range from unfamiliar and uninspiring photographs to patterns and renderings that look more like Pointillistic interpretations of Windows wallpaper to curious, animated cinemagraphs and things resembling YouTube drone videos.

Motion is highly smooth, too, with the action sequences in Scott Pilgrim vs The World looking as polished as we hoped, whether skateboards were raining down on the hero’s head or swords and hammers were swinging across the screen. The Frame automatically uses a Picture Clarity mode to aid with this, though we found motion entirely passable even without it. The app selection is customizable, too, meaning you can pin, delete, and rearrange what’s on show—so if you want Disney Plus ahead of Netflix, Rakuten TV between YouTube and Apple TV, or otherwise, that’s all right with The Frame. We might have expected a more streamlined or distinct layout, given the design focus of The Frame, but there really isn’t that much that could be improved (aside from the rather untidy Samsung TV Plus app, which is permanently half-visible at the bottom of the home screen, and a bit of an eye-sore). Samsung has succeeded in making the Frame look like real picture frames: Thus, they integrate exceptionally well into the surroundings, without signalling “technology.” (Photo: Samsung) The 40-watt audio system in The Frame produces satisfactory sound for any kind of content. It never gets too loud, but there’s also no detectable clipping even at the top of the volume range. The car chases in The Batman, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s charming songs for Encanto, and straight dialogue in movies and TV shows all sounded clear if somewhat less than full-bodied. It’s still a notable improvement on the 2018 model, helped by a newer Quantum Processor 4K, which ensures Samsung’s usual upscaling excellence is fully on show— with both HD and 4K sources looking crisp and detailed on The Frame’s 50-inch UHD screen.
We also think, even though it’s available in large sizes of a similar caliber, The Frame TV is the perfect second-room TV thanks to its combination of great picture quality and ability to blend in with its surroundings where a large TV screen might otherwise be unsightly.
The Samsung The Frame TV (2020) is a facelift for this fashion-first designer TV
The Samsung monitor uses a separate junction box (One Connect), which carries power and video signals up to the TV through a common cable. The purpose is to reduce cable clutter, but we scratch our heads a bit over the solution they have chosen on the 32″ model. It's worth mentioning that, yes, the Frame TV offers genuinely great image quality, especially compared to its predecessors. But you’re paying a premium for the design here, rather than the absolute heights of image and sound quality that a similar price tag might get you elsewhere, even within Samsung’s non-Frame range. Also consider... The 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch models can now be found in all three territories, though.
